Samuel Okware
Dr. Samuel Okware is a public health specialist with a Ph.D. in Emerging Infections. He pioneered HIV research and control in Sub-Saharan Africa. His work on HIV/AIDS led to the earliest strategies for HIV prevention, which resulted in significant declines in incidence among key populations. He has spent many years coordinating and leading national public health programs against communicable diseases in Uganda. He served on several technical advisory committees, including the WHO Expert Committee on Research and Development. He is the Director General of the Uganda National Health Research Organization, which coordinates health research in the country. He has received several awards in recognition of his contribution to HIV prevention and control. Dr. Okware has published extensively on HIV and remerging infections.
