Daniel Ruzek
Dr. Daniel Růžek is a research scientist at the Institute of Parasitology, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, and assistant professor at the Department of Medical Biology, Faculty of Science, University of South Bohemia. He received his Ph.D. in the field of molecular and cellular biology and genetics from the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic and University of South Bohemia. He had postdoctoral training at the Department of Virology and Immunology, Texas Biomedical Research Institute (formerly Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research), San Antonio, USA. His primary field is virology with research emphasis on vector-borne viruses, especially tick-borne encephalitis virus, Omsk hemorrhagic fever virus, dengue virus, and West Nile virus. He is a recipient of several scientific awards through various organizations, e.g., in 2009 he was awarded with a prestigious international Sinnecker-Kunz Award for young researchers in the field of tick-borne diseases.
