The following information will serve to assist you in writing and formatting your article for submission.
Manuscripts are submitted via ReView (hosted by River Valley Technology), following which, they will undergo initial editorial checks at our internal editorial office to ensure they are in scope, fulfil the criteria for submission and include relevant supporting data. This includes paper title, author affiliations, conflict of interest statement, data availability statement and funding statement.
We accept manuscripts prepared in MS Word formats (doc, docx) and Latex documents (.tex).
Supplementary files may be submitted in any standard, non-proprietary formats.
There are three options for writing your article:
When accepting submissions, IntechOpen journals are format-agnostic. This means that we will accept manuscripts with any formatting, i.e. even those that are not written using our template.
The only requirement is that your document contains all the necessary technical elements:
All articles submitted to the journals must be written in standard English.
You can download the MS Word template here.
The MS Word template can be opened in the text processing program of any Office Suite (MS Office, LibreOffice, OpenOffice, etc). All of the required page formatting options have been preset. Note: the template will work best with MS Office.
The MS Word template contains preparation guidelines. Simply follow the instructions and insert your text where prompted.
When sending your article in LaTeX, the source file(s) must be accompanied by the compiled PDF and all the media files. We must be able to compile the article without errors on our end. We currently do not offer a Latex template, please contact our editorial staff at journals@intechopen.com and they will provide you with guidance with this aspect.
Self-citation itself is not forbidden, as long as it is not used as citation manipulation.
Citation manipulation can come in forms such as:
Citation manipulation can be identified by the fact that the citations do not contribute to the scholarly content of the article and have been included solely for the purpose of increasing citations.
Generally, there are no uniform criteria to identify excessive self-citation, so authors should be careful with self-citations to avoid possible publishing ethics issues.
For more information please refer to the IntechOpen's Citation Policy as well as COPE guidance on citation manipulation.
Authors wishing to include figures, tables, or text passages that have already been published elsewhere are required to obtain permission from the copyright owner(s) for both the print and online format.
Please consult the following guide for more information on different ways you can request copyright permission: http://cdn.intechopen.com/public/docs/RightsLink_Guide.pdf.
We do not require Authors to submit copyright permissions along with their manuscripts, but we may ask you to provide them if there are reasons to suspect that any part of your manuscript infringes upon a third-party’s copyright.
Legitimate reuse of third-party content must include copyright holder and licensing information for the content being reused.

* Please note this is just a general suggestion. We can accept shorter or longer manuscripts, provided that the scientific content is of high value.
The number of pages includes the entirety of the content: the main text (abstract, keywords, affiliations, references + additional material). Additional material includes figures. If you are working on a review or primary research format, please try to include the figures in the 15 pages range. If you are working on a case report or mini-review format, please try to include the figures in the 5 pages range. However, this is not mandatory, and we can allow a certain level of flexibility - due to the journal's concept. It means that we can accept manuscripts up to 25-30 pages - altogether (figures included).
