The criteria for publication of scientific papers in IntechOpen journals are as follows.
IntechOpen journals are technology focused interdisciplinary publications. We welcome submissions in engineering, biological, physical and environmental sciences, as well as technology focused medical and social sciences and humanities material.
All articles submitted to the journals must be written in standard English.
For more details on each individual journal’s scope please visit their respective homepages:
Research articles summarise new findings that have not been published elsewhere; this includes negative results. The work should be of interest to researchers in the same subject discipline. The journals consider papers for publication that represent sound science.
Review articles, including mini-Reviews, are also considered by IntechOpen journals. These review articles will provide an overview of a sub-field of research, bridging together recently published papers so that a broader audience, or those new to the field, can understand the advancements recently made in that area of research.
News & Views articles are brief commentaries on relevant recent findings, publications, research activities, or initiatives within a researcher‘s field and aim at encouraging scientific discussion by making it accessible to a broader audience while still providing a critical assessment of the research in question and underlining the author‘s expertise in the field.
Editorials are non peer-reviewed articles written by the journal Editor in Chief, Section Editors, or Special Issue Editor aimed at introducing the aims of the journal or a Special Issue or addressing a trending topic. Editorials should not include unpublished or original data. If the aim of the Editorial is to act as a concluding article for a Special Issue, it should be submitted once all contributing articles have gone through the review process. This content type is not peer-reviewed but can be cited using the DOI. We do not consider unsolicited Editorials for publication.
Letter to the Editor is a type of paper that serves as a commentary on published articles. It is a short form of communication offering an alternative or new interpretation, correcting an unnoticed error in a published paper, or extending a discussion that serves as a control mechanism after the article publication. This article type is usually peer reviewed by the Editor in Chief or the handling Editor of the paper it discusses. Often the Editor will have comments or questions the authors must address before publication. The article can be cited using the DOI.
A Case Report is a study and detailed analysis of a particular set of conditions (specific case) - prevalent in medical sciences. It brings the informative analysis of precise scientific procedures, tests or experiments results.
IntechOpen does not accept previously published articles (in whole or in part). This refers to peer reviewed content and does not include articles hosted on preprint servers (arXiv, bioRxiv, chemRxiv, etc.) published as thesis, or presented at conferences. The authors are requested to note the use of the thesis or conference material in the Acknowledgments section and cite it properly.
In addition, duplicate submissions are not permitted at IntechOpen journals. If an author has submitted the same paper to multiple journals at different publishers, submissions to the other publishers should be withdrawn. If an author has made duplicate submissions to IntechOpen journals, this will be identified at the point of submission and authors contacted to ensure only the correct submission is assessed. Authors who continue to submit manuscripts to multiple journals may receive sanctions on future submissions.
Authors are responsible for ensuring that the research contained within manuscripts submitted to IntechOpen journals adheres to international and local ethical standards required for that field, including Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines.
The authors should be aware of any specific cultural sensitivities, restrictions, or research ethics approvals regarding the research in indigenous communities or any other vulnerable groups.
Authors should provide references to any ethical committees who have reviewed the work within their paper and include permission forms where relevant for sensitive experiments involving animals.
Authors should clearly state in their acknowledgements section any ethical committees who have reviewed the work within their paper and include permission forms granted by these committees where relevant and always in cases of sensitive experiments involving animals.

IntechOpen is a member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), and fully adheres to their Core Practices. Any cases of inappropriate conduct and/or authorship disagreements will be taken seriously and investigated fully by our Research Integrity team. This includes issues of:
Authors or readers with concerns about publication ethics should contact the IntechOpen Research Integrity team at journals@intechopen.com to discuss corrections to their publications or other issues of concern, including all those listed above. The IntechOpen team will investigate each case independently and report back to the complainant with information and/or a resolution.
