Open Access Books & Series

Sdg-related book series

In line with its values, IntechOpen launched a new open access Book Series on Sustainable Development in July 2022. Led by Series Editor Prof. Usha Iyer-Raniga from RMIT University, Australia, and with an international Editorial Board, the Series presents a topical structure that groups the 17 SDGs.

The four topics of our Environmental Sciences book series, launched in 2022 - Pollution; Environmental Resilience and Management; Ecosystems and Biodiversity; and Water Science - address important areas of advancement in the environmental sciences. They represent a relevant grouping of published works on these critical topics.

Waiver Policy - Supporting Our Authors

While providing support and advice to all our international authors, waiver priority will be given to those authors who reside in countries that are classified by the World Bank as low-income economies. Accessibility Online - Supporting Our Readers

For nearly two decades, IntechOpen has been supporting the dissemination of knowledge with its OA and OS publishing program. Our goal is to make scientific information accessible to everyone.

Our website and our open access platform are now also accessible to all and comply with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, level AA, ADA and Section 508 standards compliant with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the ongoing commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals focusing on inclusion and equity.

Initiatives That Promote Wide and Critical Dissemination of Content Globally

R4L

Aside from free access online, all books can be ordered as hard copies. Sustainability and efficiency have been implemented since 2011. Currently, the solutions related to the print product include on-demand printing, sustainable printing paper, sustainable printing practices, sustainable packaging, and sustainable shipping.

Zendy

IntechOpen partnered with Zendy, developed by Knowledge E, to boost the accessibility of open access content for developing countries, making our scholarly work more discoverable in the MENA region and other developing countries. As members of the SDG Publishers Compact, both Knowledge E and IntechOpen share the same commitment to increase awareness, publish and disseminate scientific research that supports the UN SDGs.

Book Aid

In November 2022, IntechOpen Donated Books to Book Aid International, Supporting Progress and Equity in Research and Education. “This initiative is of great importance to IntechOpen because, in the spirit of making knowledge available to all, it allows our publications to be shared with researchers and professionals living in countries with reduced access to online resources. With Book Aid International's long history and commitment to sharing the power of books to advance progress and promote equity, this initiative is a natural fit for us. We hope to keep supporting Book Aid International in the future.”

Disability and work

Daily Fit-Office Exercise Breaks

Our goal is to improve health and a better quality of life at the workplace, and we have introduced a workplace exercise program adapted to the needs and capabilities of the team. Improving physical and mental health creates a productive and motivating work environment and raises employees' quality of life.

Our partner in doing so is FitOffice, a socially responsible company that employs more than 50% of people with disabilities and is run by a paralympic athlete.

Socially-responsible Initiatives

Every year our team takes part in socially-responsible Initiatives. After years of supporting zero hunger initiatives and SDG Goal 2, our employees have decided to donate to a children's home and support Goal 16.2 for Christmas 2022.

The aim was to help a public social care institution that provides psychosocial assistance to children, young people and their families through a half-day stay program, professional advisory service and preventive activities.

IntechOpen’s employees’ commitment for Christmas 2023 was to help the most vulnerable fellow citizens by providing food packages. The food was distributed through the a local volunteer organisation that provides food and essential items to help people in need.

Wings for Life 2022 & 2023

IntechOpen joins the rest of the world each year in the Wings for Life World run. The world's biggest running event, the Wings for Life World Run, is an international race in which donations help to support spinal cord injury research - 100% of entry fees go to spinal cord research and help to find a cure for spinal cord injury.
